We have made this hot choccy a Sunday night ritual in our house. This frothy hot chocolate isn’t like your average hot chocolate, it is rich in chocolate flavour without being high in refined sugar.
Serves 2
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 3 minutes
Ingredients
4 pitted dates
500ml of cashew milk or milk of choice (We used cashew as it is has a richer creamier texture)
1 tablespoon of cacao (or more if you prefer a more bitter hot chocolate)
20 grams of chocolate of your choice. (if you like a sweeter hot choccy use a 70% dark chocolate or if you prefer a less sweet and richer chocolate taste we would suggest using an 85-90% dark chocolate)
Steps:
Place your dates in boiling water and leave for 5 minutes.
In a blender add your soaked dates, milk, cacao and chocolate and blend until the dates have broken down.
Pour your hot chocolate into a small pot on a medium to high heat.
Heat your hot chocolate to your desired temperature.
Enjoy straight away or get fancy and top your hot chocolate off with chocolate shavings using a potato peeler.
Note:
If you want a smoother hot chocolate or your blender can't fully break down the dates, simply pour you hot chocolate through a strainer.
Blending your chocolate mixer will create a foamer hot chocolate, you can also use a stick blender to create this effect.
